3 Goals For June
Listen to seasonal rhythms. This month will usher in summer, which means we get to advantage of the sunlight and the longer days. This might include an evening walk, fresh summer fruit from the farmer’s market and eating it mindfully, or pausing to marvel something growing or changing. Even just a few minutes of looking at hummingbirds, flowers, or clouds can help bring you back to the present moment and minimize anxious thinking. Life is busy, I get it, however try being intentional with these small joys this month and see how it feels.
Practice saying “no.” Summer fridays, playdates and childcare now that school is out, supporting someone at work who is on vacation… there will be ample opportunities for people pleasing tendencies to show up.
What would it be like to say no? To say no when you mean no, even though you feel tempted to say yes?
The goal is to push yourself ever so slightly out of your comfort zone. Be bold. Be brave. Remember this is a skill you build up over time.
A tip: prepare for disappointment ahead of time. They might have big feelings about you saying no. That’s okay. Literally anticipate what the response might be, or the emotions you might experience, and walk yourself through it. This way you won’t feel compelled to give in or change your mind at the first sign of pushback.
