I’m reading an incredible book right now- The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron- where she discusses the idea, self-discovery, and daily practice of living a creative life.
One thing that has really resonated with me is what she describes as the Logic Brain. Essentially, it’s our censor, who seeks ongoing safety and consistency in a world filled with novelty and potential danger. It also happens to be the opposite of the Artist Brain, who is the inventor and child and ongoing seeker. It makes sense why these two would be at odds with one another.
I took time to journal and reflect where the censor lives within me, and when they show up. And I quickly realized it is overwhelmingly in the online space. It’s only been since I took a big breather during the last 6 months or so that’s I’ve seen just how much… what’s the word… fear? tact? effort? anxiety? I moved through the space with. I can point to one specific moment in time that shifted the way I experienced sharing mental health content online:
